In honor of Greg “Maddog” Madsen’s pursuit of giving to the Junior Guard community and the community at large, the Capitola Junior Guard Parents club has created a Memorial Scholarship in Greg’s name. This scholarship will be awarded to a community member who is or who will be pursuing a Master’s or Doctorate program, who has been involved in the Junior Guard program and who has given back to our community through service.

Greg was first to ask if there was help needed and would quickly take action to lend a hand. He supported young adults who worked to give back to our local community and in many instances, he led the way. He led by example and was always bringing together different groups of people in a collaborative way. He valued education and encouraged youth in the community to grow through lifelong learning.

The Capitola Junior Guard Parents club is looking to award one scholarship per year to an individual who possesses these attributes of leadership, giving and sharing, and who will be attending the next step of their higher education in working towards a Master’s or Doctorate degree.

Scholarships will be awarded to the applicants based on:

  • Enrollment and Participation in Capitola Jr. Lifeguards

  • Completion of an undergraduate program
